The Training and Outreach Worker for 92.5 Phoenix FM contacted me to ask if I would do a Zoom with some of their volunteers around my progress in radio, and advice for people on developing their own careers.
I prepared a short presentation with all of the topics I thought might be of interest, with an invitation to attendees to select a topic or suggest their own. I included an intro to how I got started in radio, projects I’ve completed, workflow and things I’ve done to develop and upskill. I also included some snippets of recent research into women in radio and media and further resources.
The hour-long session went by in a flash – all the women that attended were so interesting, and asked great questions. I was delighted to present the talk, and learn as I went.
A note on design – I formatted the slides in Canva in a vertical smartphone format as an experiment. I hoped that it would make it easier for people participating on a smartphone, and for those on a laptop they could split-screen and still see the gallery of participants easily to one side. I think it worked well, and I will apply the idea to appropriate presentations/sessions again in future.
